Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service is holding its annual "Extrication Challenge" this Saturday.
"The standards shown in last year’s competition were very high and I’m confident our crews can set the same standards this year.”
Crews from Stafford, Stone, Tamworth and Lichfield will compete against each other to see who will represent Staffordshire at the National Extrication Challenge Finals.
The challenge involves them demonstrating their skills by extricating casualties from vehicles involved in scenarios similar to those that the fire crews face on a daily basis when attending road traffic collisions. Each team will have 20 minute time frame to complete the extrication and will be judged on their professionalism in releasing the trapped casualties from vehicles
Lead Trainer, Tim Hollingworth, who has organised the challenge, said “The past two years have seen Lichfield win the competition so it’s going to be an exciting challenge to see if they can continue their success or whether another team will knock them off the top spot.
This year’s winning team will represent Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service at the National Finals held at Hampshire Fire & Rescue Service Headquarters on the 1st and 2nd October 2010.
