Staffordshire Fire & Rescue Service - Preventing, Protecting, Responding

Derelict Mill Fire in Tamworth

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to an incident at Bonehill Muse on Watling Street in Tamworth on Friday night.

The call was received at 10.20pm and involved a three storey derelict mill, approximately 30 metres by 40 metres, which was on fire.

Crews from Tamworth, Lichfield and the Aerial Ladder Platform from Burton attended the incident and also three pumps from Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service and one from the West Midlands.

"On arrival crews found the derelict building to be well alight. Firefighters used the aerial ladder platform to tackle the fire from above. They also used three main jets, where they sourced water from a near by canal, which was used to extinguish the fire.

"Fire Officers assessed the structural damage of the building, and deemed it unsafe for crews to enter therefore they tackled the fire externally."

Station Manager, Keith Murray

The cause of the fire is believed to have been caused deliberately and the incident closed at 11am on Saturday morning.
