Fire and rescue crews from Cannock, Penkridge and Stafford were called to a barn fire on Cocksparrow Lane in Huntington shortly before 12.30pm today.
"We would advise anybody who is burning rubbish to supervise the fire at all times and ensure that they are prepared with a suitable way to extinguish the fire should it get out of control."
The incident involved a Dutch barn that was on fire, the barn doors were well alight as well as the front of the building. Five bales of wax cotton inside the barn were also burnt due to the fire. Firefighters used two hose reel jets to extinguish the blaze.
The cause of the fire was accidental and had started due to some rubbish that was burning near to the barn. The rubbish had been left burning and the fire got out of control spreading to the barn.
Assistant Area Commander Carl Mason said: “ If left unattended a fire can quickly spread causing damage to anything in the surrounding areas. Controlled burning is not advised in windy weather as this will encourage the fire to spread.”
The incident was closed at 2.14pm.
