Kitchen Fire in Stafford

Firefighters in Stafford are warning people about the dangers of leaving kitchen appliances turned on and unattended following a kitchen fire on Averill Road, Highfields in Stafford.

Two crews from Stafford attended the incident following a call at 2.00pm this afternoon from the female occupier. Whilst cleaning the lady had placed the microwave on top of the electric cooker and then accidentally turned the cooker on which melted the microwave.

"The smoke alarm alerted the lady to the incident meaning minimal damage occurred to her property. On arrival, firefighters found the occupier suffering from breathing difficulties and treated her with oxygen therapy before an ambulance took her to Stafford General hospital as a precautionary measure.

"We would like to remind people to take care when moving electrical appliances and make sure everything is turned off before leaving the room. Never leave any appliances turned on and unattended."
