Hanley Fire Station is set to come down as demolition starts to make way for the brand new community fire station.

Hanley firefighters have moved into temporary onsite accommodation, whilst the wider support team have moved to offices at Quantum House, based on Leek Road.
The temporary fire station which is a steel framed structure comes complete with offices and bays for all three appliances - emergency response will remain the same throughout the construction period.
Demolition of the main building will commence on 21st June. The stages of demolition will be visible to passers-by straight away and construction of the new station is programmed to begin on 27th July. The new £5.1 million community fire station, is expected to open in July 2011.

"The new station to be built couldn’t be more different to the current station; it will come complete with facilities for use by the public, allowing us to really embed ourselves within the local community."
Local schools and youth groups are helping to make the construction site look brighter by painting different designs and pictures onto large 8 x 4 metre boards provided by the contracted construction company, Thomas Vale.
The Thomas Boughey Children Centre and Kindergarten, Shelton Youth Service, Brighter Futures, Waterside Primary School and The V team at YMCA will all be helping to paint the eight panels with artwork to reflect their involvement with the Service.
Rehana Iqbal, Community Risk Reduction Officer for Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "This is a fantastic and fun way to engage with our local community. The community groups involved have now received their boards and some brilliant ideas are beginning to come emerge. I feel privileged to be a part of this project and looking forward to seeing the finished art work"
Rachel Burt, Manager at Thomas Boughey Kindergarten said: "We were delighted to be invited to participate with this project, the children are very excited about creating their board and can’t wait to see it displayed at the construction site."
Funding for the new station has come from a multi million private finance initiative (PFI) project. The consortium delivering the project is called Fire Support (see Notes to Editor 1) and construction company, Thomas Vale, have been contracted to carry out the build at Hanley.
