Fire Officer Chairs Olympics 2012 Safety Group

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service’s Risk Reduction Manager, Alan McEntire, has been selected to chair the re-write of the Fire Safety chapter of the Health and Safety Executive’s Guidance Document on Event Safety in time for the 2012 London Olympics.

"I’m both delighted and honoured to have been selected to chair the national working group and I’m looking forward to seeing the final document."

The official guidance document, The Event Safety Guide, is used across the UK by event organisers, promoters and all enforcement agencies for the safety of the public and workers at all types of events, including major music concerts, motor racing and the London Marathon.

One of the reasons that Alan was chosen to revise the document is his 11 years of experience at the V Festival in Staffordshire: "Part of my job has been to ensure the safety of others at events and it is an appropriate time now to review the guidance document on event safety, given such a large event is fast approaching.

"I’m both delighted and honoured to have been selected to chair the national working group and I’m looking forward to seeing the final document."

The Event Safety Guide is used by many other countries as the primary source of guidance or as the basis for their own guidance documents.
