Staffordshire Fire & Rescue Service - Preventing, Protecting, Responding

Kitchen Fire in Brewood

Crews from Brewood and Codsall were called to a property on Horsebrook Hall Lane in Brewood at 11.20am this morning, where a kitchen grill had caught fire.

“This incident highlights how important it is to both check appliances are properly turned off before leaving the room and to also make sure grill pans and similar are properly cleaned to prevent a build up of food residue."

South Staffordshire Area Commander, Keith Stubbs

The fire was out on arrival however firefighters wearing breathing apparatus ventilated the property which had suffered slight smoke damage.

The fire started in the grill pan, caused by fat and grease residue igniting and the occupants did not realise they hadn’t properly turned off the grill after use.

South Staffordshire Area Commander Keith Stubbs said: “This incident highlights how important it is to both check appliances are properly turned off before leaving the room and to also make sure grill pans and similar are properly cleaned to prevent a build up of food residue.

“Smoke alarms quickly alerted the occupants to the fire however they were initially unsure about whether they needed to call us, as the fire was only small. I would like to take this opportunity to stress how important it is that we are called to all fires – big or small.

“It does not matter if it is out before we arrive, we still need to investigate the scene and make sure the affected area is safe.”

Crews left the incident at 12.10pm.
