Deliberate Fire at Cheadle Pet Shop

Firefighters from Cheadle, Ipstones and Longton were called to a fire in Cheadle at 5.00am this morning.

""We would encourage businesses to ensure they have suitable security and fire safety arrangements in place."

Station Manager, Mark Wilson

On arrival, they found the outside store of the pet shop on Cross Street well alight and the fire had also spread to the gable end of the adjoining flat.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two main jets to extinguish the fire which has destroyed the outside store and left one flat fire damaged and other nearby flats smoke damaged.

Station Manager, Mark Wilson said: "We had extinguished the fire by 5.40am and then spent a further hour and a half damping down remaining hotspots. We believe this fire was started deliberately due to the absence of another ignition source.

"We would encourage businesses to ensure they have suitable security and fire safety arrangements in place - here at Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service we have a dedicated Business Support Team who organisations can contact to find out more about reducing the likelihood of a fire occurring on their premises."

The incident was closed at 7.35am.
