Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service are throwing open their doors this summer for their bi-annual Family Day event.

This is a fantastic opportunity for us give the public a real insight into the Fire Service and for them to see all the different kinds of work we are involved with."

Chief Fire Officer/Chief Executive, Peter Dartford

The Family Day will be held at the Service’s Headquarters, off the A34 near Stone, from 12.30pm – 4.30pm on Saturday 25th September.

Entry is free and members of the public are invited for a full filled day. Families will be able to climb aboard fire engines, see live practical demonstrations including car crash extrications and rope rescues, tour the control room where the 999 calls are taken and even try on firefighting breathing apparatus!

Events Manager, Jude Russell said: "Our Family Days are always hugely popular events and this year is set to be the biggest and best yet! Our last Family Day was in 2008 and we raised over £2,500 for The Fire Fighters Charity. We will have representatives from each area of the County who will be on hand to speak to their local communities. Our Service mascot, Welephant, will be on hand entertaining the children."

Other activities on the day include smoke house tours, animal rescue demonstrations, student firefighter hose competitions, pony rides, face painting and other Fire Service demonstrations.

Chief Fire Officer/Chief Executive Peter Dartford added: "This is a fantastic opportunity for us give the public a real insight into the Fire Service and for them to see all the different kinds of work we are involved with. It’s also a great way for us to raise awareness about the importance of fire safety in a fun and informal atmosphere."

Representatives from partner agencies will also be attending the event including Staffordshire Police with their armed response vehicle and forensic unit, West Midlands Fire and Rescue Service with their fire investigation dogs, Community First Responders and the Red Cross.

Refreshments, including a BBQ, will be available and there will be a teddy bear’s picnic area for people wanting to bring their own food.

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service Headquarters is located off the A34 at Pirehill, Stone, Staffordshire, ST15 0BS. Free parking will be available on the day.
