Fire Service Friend Retires

The Fire Service Chaplain for Barton under Needwood, Reverend Tony Wood is retiring after 30 years of working in the Parish.

Tony is a well known member of the community and he has been the Fire Service Chaplin for Barton under Needwood Fire Station for the past two years.

"Not only has he provided a great deal of support to the firefighters by acting as a councillor in times of need, but he has had a great deal of involvement in our personal lives too."

Crew Manager, Richard Downes

Crew Manager Richard Downes said: "Tony is a very well respected member of the local community in Barton. Not only has he provided a great deal of support to the firefighters by acting as a councillor in times of need, but he has had a great deal of involvement in our personal lives too.

"Many of the firefighters here at Barton have grown up in the village with Tony as the local vicar.  He has christened several of the crew’s children and married myself and my wife.  Tony has worked extremely hard and put a lot of time and effort into organising charity events and fund raising for the Fire Fighters Charity. We will all miss his commitment and involvement."

A presentation for Tony will take place at Barton under Needwood Fire Station on Short Lane, Barton under Needwood on Thursday 26th August at 7pm.
