Smoke Alarms Save Family of Four

Smoke alarms have alerted a family of four to a blaze in their home overnight.

Fire and rescue crews from Lichfield and Chase Terrace attended the house fire on Boathouse Fields in Lichfield at approximately 2am this morning.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus tackled the blaze using one hose reel jet and contained the fire to the ground floor of the three storey terraced house.  The fire started in the ground floor kitchen due to an electrical fault.

Group Manager, Del Roberts, said: "The occupiers were alerted to the fire by the smoke alarm which activated.  If there had not been a smoke alarm in the property we could have been reporting a very different incident. The alarm saved the lives of all four people that were inside the house."

Two adults and two children were all were given precautionary checks by paramedics but did not attend hospital.

The fire caused extensive fire and smoke damage to the kitchen and moderate smoke damage to the ground floor.

Firefighters left the scene at 3.54am.
