Fire at Bloomfield Composting

Crews have been tackling a severe fire at Bloomfield Composting on Cocksparrow Lane in Huntington since 8.30pm on Saturday evening.

"This fire is believed to have been started deliberately and tied up valuable resources that could have easily been required elsewhere."

South Staffordshire Area Commander, Ian Dawson

Five crews from Cannock, Brewood, Penkridge and Rising Brook were initially in attendance at the incident where approximately 150 x 150 metres of chipboard was well alight.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus tackled the fire using one main compressed air foam jet, one main jet and one hose reel jet. The fire is believed to have been started deliberately.

South Staffordshire Area Commander, Ian Dawson said: "Due to the severity of the fire, several crews were tied up from Saturday evening to last night.

"This fire is believed to have been started deliberately and tied up valuable resources that could have easily been required elsewhere. Whoever started this fire could have endangered lives by doing so and their actions put other people’s lives at risk whilst crews remained busy dealing with this incident."

The incident continued over the weekend and further crews from Chase Terrace, Codsall, Lichfield and Rugeley rotated cover with the original crews. The incident was closed at 5.15pm last night.
