House Fire in Shelton

Two crews from Newcastle and a crew from Hanley were called to a house fire on Ashford Street in Shelton at just after 2.00am this morning.

A total of 14 people called to report the fire in the ground floor of the terraced property and crews arrived to find a severe fire in progress.

All persons who live at the property were accounted for and firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the property to fight the fire using two main jets.

Crews left the scene at 5.50am and an investigation will commence after 8.30am.

Staffordshire Police have arrested a 43 year old man who is currently in custody and Fire Investigation and Scenes of Crime Officers are due to the return to the scene this morning to carry out a joint investigation to determine the cause of the fire.
