Fire in Disused Newcastle Restaurant

30 firefighters are tackling a blaze at a disused former restaurant on Silverdale Road in Newcastle. The call was received at 2.35pm and there have since been 13 repeat calls.

Appliances from Newcastle, Hanley, Ashley and Kidsgrove have been sent to the incident, along with the aerial ladder platform from Longton. Approximately 10 x 15 metres of the first floor and roof area is alight and two main jets are currently in use. Firefighters are also using equipment to force entry to the building and the aerial ladder platform is tackling the fire from above.

The Police have closed the surrounding road and a safety cordon has now been put in place as a precautionary measure.

Group Manager, Wayne Bowcock said: "Crews are currently checking the stability of the property and damping down. We are liaising with building inspectors to make sure the building can be left in a safe condition so as not to pose any harm to members of the public."
