Chip Pan Fire in Hanley

Crews from Hanley and Burslem were alerted to a house fire on Waterloo Road by a passing motorist at just after 8.00pm last night.

"This incident serves as a reminder to people using chip pans, they should never be left unattended as they can quickly overheat and ignite."

Station Manager, Rob Barber

On arrival, firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the property and used one hose reel jet to cool a chip pan which had been left unattended and had caught fire.

One male adult and one male toddler were checked over by paramedics at the scene but did not require hospital treatment.

Station Manager, Rob Barber said: "The fire was out on arrival however it had caused quite a bit of smoke damage to the kitchen and light smoke damage to the rest of the property.

"This incident serves as a reminder to people using chip pans, they should never be left unattended as they can quickly overheat and ignite.  We’d encourage people to use thermostatically controlled deep fat fryers instead."

The incident was closed just before 9pm.
