Community leads, the local MP and councillors will get a first look tour of the City’s first new community fire station this Monday.

The new state of the art station, located on Reginald Mitchell Way, will be crewed 24/7 by 28 firefighters working over four shifts. There will be one fire engine and two specialist appliances. The two storey building includes a partner room and a community room, outside there is drill yard and a training building and tower. It is expected that firefighters will move into the community fire station the following week.
Drop in sessions for members of the public will be running from Wednesday 27th October – Friday 29th October from 2pm – 4pm and on Saturday 30th October from 1pm – 4pm. No booking is required and attendees will get a tour of the new station and have the opportunity to find out more about the fire and rescue service. Car parking is free and refreshments will be provided.

The station is one of ten new community fire stations being built under a private finance initiative (PFI) project. The consortium delivering the project is called Fire Support (see Notes to Editor). Construction company Thomas Vale have constructed the new building and COFELY Ltd will provide the ongoing facilities management.

It was a risk profile of the area, based on several years worth of data that identified Sandyford as an area that would benefit from a fire station. The location on Reginald Mitchell Way was chosen due to its good access to the road networks in the area. The new station will complement nearby fire stations in Kidsgrove to the north and Burslem to the south - Kidsgrove will move to being retained on Monday whilst Burslem will move to being a retained fire station when crew starts operating from Sandyford.
The county’s first new community fire station at Rising Brook, Stafford is already proving a success. In the first three weeks of opening over 550 members of the public attended drop in sessions. Since then a local high school and pre schools are attending weekly learning sessions and firefighters are running health walks for the local community.
