Chemical Incident in Cannock

Firefighters are dealing with a chemical incident in the Bridgtown area of Cannock.

"There has been a small explosion involving a mixture of acid gas residue from an industrial process on site. The plant has been isolated with no further risk to the public or environment."

Crews were called to a business called Aegean on Walkmill Lane shortly before midday today.

Five fire engines from Cannock, Lichfield, Burton and Penkridge are at the incident, along with three specialist appliances from Burton, Hanley and Stone, amounting to approximately 38 firefighters. Staffordshire Police and West Midlands Ambulance Service are also at the incident.

Group Manager, Del Roberts said: “There has been a small explosion involving a mixture of acid gas residue from an industrial process on site. The plant has been isolated with no further risk to the public or environment.

“Firefighters have set up a decontamination unit and 12 people, including six emergency service workers, are being decontaminated at the scene as a precaution.”
