Staffordshire Fire & Rescue Service - Preventing, Protecting, Responding

Celebration of Success

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service has congratulated firefighters and control room staff for successfully completing their initial training. The 20 recipients were awarded certificates at a Celebration of Success evening held at the Service’s Headquarters.

“The celebration of success event signified our operational staff becoming fully competent in their roles."

All employees have completed the firefighter modules or the fire control operator trainee course. Following an initial induction, the firefighters have studied four modules acquiring the necessary knowledge; skills and understanding in using firefighting equipment, dealing with hazardous materials, wearing breathing apparatus, medical assistance, water training and using specialist cutting equipment at road traffic collisions (see notes to editor).

The control operators have completed a five week course covering emergency call handling, radio, core tasks and administration.

During the evening of celebration, the new firefighters and control staff, their families and friends viewed a DVD which demonstrated the range and depth of what they had studied throughout the course.

Lead Trainer, Rebecca Gill said: “The celebration of success event signified our operational staff becoming fully competent in their roles. It was our opportunity to celebrate their hard work and give their families an insight into the range of training they have been doing.”

Three of the firefighters receiving the awards are on an apprenticeship scheme with the Service, the remaining firefighters are retained, meaning they are on call and respond to emergencies via a pager. Several of the recipients joined Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service within the last 12 months and have been working over this period of time to complete each of the training modules whilst serving at their respective stations.
