Firefighters Rescue Dog from Frozen Lake

29/11/2010

A crew from Uttoxeter were called to JCB World Waterloo Park on Beamhurst Road in Uttoxeter yesterday after a Labrador fell through ice and became trapped in the water.

"We would urge people never to stand on ice or try to enter freezing water themselves, call us instead as we have the expertise and equipment to rescue people and animals safely."

The dog’s owner immediately called the fire and rescue service for assistance at 9.15am and firefighters managed to retrieve the dog quickly and safely.

Station Manager, Paul Richins said: "The man did the right thing by not attempting to rescue his dog himself. We would urge people never to stand on ice or try to enter freezing water themselves, call us instead as we have the expertise and equipment to rescue people and animals safely.

"Dog walkers in particular need to take extra care in this weather to keep their pets safe and ideally dogs should be kept away from ice or remain on the lead when ice is nearby."

Crews left the scene at 10.15am.
