Safer Nights in Lichfield

06/12/2010

Lichfield firefighters will be out on the town this weekend with a serious message to deliver to party-goers – don’t drink and drive.

"During these visits, we will be checking on fire regulations within the buildings to ensure they are properly in place to help keep party-goers safe."

John Bakewell, Fire Safety Enforcement Officer

As part of the multi-agency safety campaign, firefighters will create a road traffic collision scene in Lichfield town centre from 7pm on Saturday December 11th to show revellers exactly what can happen if you drink and drive or don’t adhere to general road safety rules, as well as providing road safety advice to passing members of the public.

John Bakewell, Fire Safety Enforcement Officer said: "In addition to Saturday night’s demonstration, which begins at 7pm until around 10pm, we will also be in the town centre again next Friday December 17th between 7pm and 10pm visiting licensed premises.

"During these visits, we will be checking on fire regulations within the buildings to ensure they are properly in place to help keep party-goers safe."

This Saturday night also sees the launch of the ‘Late Night Listeners’ initiative which involves church representatives providing a place where people can go to wind down if they need to during their night out. The late night listeners will provide an area to sit down in as well as hot drinks in a bid to tackle alcohol related violence, aggression or arguments.
