Flat Fire in Chadsmoor

21/12/2010

Crews from Cannock, Penkridge and Chase Terrace have been tackling a flat fire this morning on Cannock Road in Chadsmoor.

"It doesn’t take long for something to overheat and catch fire and before you know it a whole room has gone up in flames."

Station Manager, Stan Cooper

A call was received at 7.40am to report the fire and a further six repeat calls were received as smoke billowed from the windows. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used one hose reel jet to tackle the fire, which started in the lounge.

Station Manager, Stan Cooper said: "The fire is believed to have been started accidentally by the gas fire. The three male occupants were out of the property on arrival and received oxygen therapy from paramedics at the scene, one of the men has gone to hospital.

"The fire has damaged several personal possessions belonging to the men and has also burnt through the floorboards. The flat has been left smoke logged however it could have been worse as the sofa was only a few feet away from the fire and could have easily caught fire as well.

"We would urge people not to leave heating equipment on overnight and to also make sure there are no combustible materials nearby. It doesn’t take long for something to overheat and catch fire and before you know it a whole room has gone up in flames."

Crews left the scene at 9.40am.
