“We managed to prevent the fire from spreading to a nearby house and overhead power cables."

Station Manager, Stan Cooper

A call was received at 5.55am to report several hundred tonnes of recycling materials well alight on land off Stocking Gate Lane. Crews used three main jets to tackle the 20 x 20 metre fire, which involved plastic and other recycling materials.

Station Manager, Stan Cooper said: “This was a large fire with flames reaching 20 metres in height spreading very quickly to several hundred tonnes of plastic waste and other combustible materials which had accidentally caught fire.

“We managed to prevent the fire from spreading to a nearby house and overhead power cables. The main fire was extinguished very quickly; crews then spent some time damping down to ensure the fire would not re-ignite.”

The incident was closed at 8.55am.
