Crews from Codsall and Brewood as well as a crew from a neighbouring fire service were called to Ball Lane in Coven Heath in the early hours of this morning.
"Starting a fire deliberately is an incredibly stupid thing to do and even the smallest fire can quickly get out of control."
Station Manager, Ian Dawson
A call was received at 5.10am and on arrival firefighters found a bungalow was well alight. Two main jets and two hose reel jets were used to tackle the fire externally.
Station Manager, Ian Dawson said: "The area is quite remote and the property was empty meaning the fire would not have been noticed right away. We were met with a well-developed fire and due to structural fears firefighters were unable to enter the building.
"The fire was tackled externally and once extinguished we began an investigation into the cause of the fire. It is believed the fire was started deliberately and it has gutted the property completely.
"Whoever started this fire endangered the lives of themselves as well as the firefighters who tackled it. Starting a fire deliberately is an incredibly stupid thing to do and even the smallest fire can quickly get out of control, plus the guilty party could have ended up seriously or even fatally injured as a result of their thoughtless actions.
"Another thing that people who start fires deliberately don’t think about is that someone else could be trapped in a house fire needing urgent help but crews are tied up putting out a needless fire that they started instead. Such thoughtless actions can endanger the lives of so many people."
The incident was closed at 9.15am.
