Stanford the rat tests his smoke alarm!

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service are asking the people of Staffordshire ‘how do you push your button?’ and want to see photographic evidence of the answers!

"We are asking everyone in Staffordshire to take a photograph of a smoke alarm button being pushed and the most original photo will win."

Following the success of the Push the Button video which was launched on the Service’s website and on YouTube in October last year, a photo competition will be launched on the Service’s Facebook page today, with a family pass to the Alton Towers Resort up for grabs for the winner.

Marketing and Campaigns Officer, Rachelle Hewitt said: "We are asking everyone in Staffordshire to take a photograph of a smoke alarm button being pushed and the most original photo will win. It can be a photo of one person or 100 people pushing the button and we’re looking for the most creative ideas.

"We have put a few photos on our Facebook Fan Page which have been created by members of staff for people to see what kind of photo we’re looking for; examples include a pet rat and a Lego man pushing the button!

"We launched our Push the Button campaign in October which included a fun video with a serious message featuring members of the fire service ‘pushing the button.’

"The video has received over 25,000 hits to date on our website and YouTube but we are still keen to ensure that people have remembered the message and are testing their smoke alarms weekly – we want to change the shocking statistic that is although nine out of ten household have smoke alarms a shocking seven out of ten don’t test them.

"The photos can be emailed to us at pushthebutton@staffordshirefire.gov.uk and we will upload them to our Facebook Fan Page – appropriate photos only though please, keep it clean!"

The competition is open to residents of Staffordshire only and the closing date for photo entries is March 31st 2011. A number of photos will then be shortlisted by Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service and the winner will be chosen by public vote via the Facebook Fan Page http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Staffordshire-Fire-and-Rescue/103694959695016
