Wombourne Course Leads to Friendship Group

01/04/2011

A group of eight older people have formed a new friendship group in Wombourne following a course for older persons at Wombourne Community Fire Station.

"It’s a lovely idea to have a friendship group and we were only too happy to provide the community room at Wombourne Community Fire Station for their use."

South Staffordshire Risk Reduction Co-ordinator Katherine Haigh

The group, who will still use the community room at the Fire Station for their meets, all met during the course and decided to keep in touch. They then had the idea to form a new group and will meet up on a weekly basis to take part in activities such as chatting over tea and coffee, playing games, watching films and going for mornings out in the local area.

South Staffordshire Risk Reduction Co-ordinator Katherine Haigh said: "It’s great that these older people have not only bonded during one of our courses but have now gone on to form a new group.

"It’s a lovely idea to have a friendship group and we were only too happy to provide the community room at Wombourne Community Fire Station for their use. The group will also join an older persons group at Codsall Fire Station for larger activities so they’ll be meeting some more new faces as well.

"If anyone else is interested in using the community rooms at Wombourne or Codsall they can contact the station direct on 01785 898795 to find out more. The room can be booked free of charge for any local community group use."
