Kitchen Destroyed in Dishwasher Fire

01/04/2011

A kitchen has been gutted and the rest of the house heat and smoke damaged throughout following a dishwasher fire in Whitehill, Kidsgrove this morning.

"The incident serves as a reminder for people to ensure all appliances are in sound working order."

Station Manager, Glynn Luznyj

Crews from Kidsgrove and Sandyford were called to the terraced property on Whitfield Road at approximately 10.12am by a neighbour who saw smoke coming from the house. Two hose reel jets were used to extinguish the fire which is believed to have started accidentally following an electrical fault with the dishwasher.

Station Manager, Glynn Luznyj said: "The incident serves as a reminder for people to ensure all appliances are in sound working order. We would also urge people to make sure they close all internal doors in their property before leaving the property or going to bed as this helps to contain fires within the room of origin so the fire does not spread as fast.

"All of the internal doors were open throughout this property which has resulted in the entire house being damaged by heat and smoke"

The incident was closed at 11.20am.
