A total of 17 people attended the volunteer information event held today at Tamworth Belgrave Community Fire Station.
"This was a great opportunity for people either looking to volunteer and for those who are unemployed and are looking to widen their skills."
Del Roberts, Tamworth Area Commander
A wide variety of men and women with a range of experience and skills between them have expressed an interest to become a volunteer to help support the delivery of community fire safety in the Tamworth area.
Del Roberts, Tamworth Area Commander said: "This is the first time we’ve recruited volunteers to carry out community fire safety. This was a great opportunity for people either looking to volunteer and for those who are unemployed and are looking to widen their skills.
"This project follows on from success in other areas of the county including Newcastle and Stafford where teams of volunteers are currently operating from. We would also like to thank Tamworth CVS for their support in organising this event and they will also help with the recruitment process."
Successful applicants will be part of a new team of volunteers who will support fire service staff in community based activities in schools, businesses and in people’s homes.
If anyone who was unable to attend the event today is still interested in finding out more, please call Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service on 08451 22 11 55 and ask to speak to the volunteer co-ordinator or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
