Stafford firefighters are holding an event at the West Way Public House in Highfields on April 20th to help promote community safety in the area.

"The owner of the West Way Public House approached us with the idea for a community event as he had witnessed the impact the fire had on residents."

The event has been arranged by the Targeted Response Vehicle (TRV) crew and the West Way Public House following a severe fire at a flat near to the pub in February which saw the entire block evacuated.

The West Way Public House opened its doors to affected people and despite the late hour, ensured that both residents and firefighters had hot refreshments and food as well as a warm place to wait whilst the fire was extinguished.

TRV Firefighter, Mitch Stafford said: "The owner of the West Way Public House approached us with the idea for a community event as he had witnessed the impact the fire had on residents and thought it would be a good idea to promote local agencies and what they can do to support local people.

"The free event will be held at the pub and we have many agencies attending including Staffordshire Police, the Primary Care Trust, Stafford and Rural Homes, the Staffordshire County Council Road Safety Unit and the Red Cross.

"There will also be a bouncy castle, karaoke and the opportunity for people to have a look around the emergency vehicles that will be there. All agencies attending will be available to answer any questions or just have a chat with local residents so they can find out what goes on in their area."

The event is free and will run from 1pm until 6pm on April 20th.
