25/05/2011

Firefighters have attended a fire at a farm in Chase Terrace. The call was received at 6:44pm yesterday evening reporting the incident.

"There was a high risk that the fire would spread to a barn that was situated close by, so we used farm machinery to create a break between the fire and the barn which was successful and prevented the fire from spreading.”

Group Manager Ian Sloss.

Fire and rescue crews from Lichfield, Chase Terrace and Cannock attended the incident which involved 80 tonnes of manure approximately 40m x 20m that was well alight.

Firefighters used three main jets to tackle the blaze and managed to prevent the fire from spreading to an adjacent barn.

Group Manager Ian Sloss said: “We pumped water from a nearby hydrant to provide us with water due to the location of the incident. There was a high risk that the fire would spread to a barn that was situated close by, so we used farm machinery to create a break between the fire and the barn which was successful and prevented the fire from spreading.”

Firefighters returned to the scene this morning to continue damping down hot spots.

The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental.
