Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service is recruiting 24 volunteers to help support the delivery of community fire safety in North Staffordshire.
"This is a great opportunity for people either looking to volunteer or those who are unemployed and are looking to widen their skills."
Mick Daniels, Prevention Manager
A recruitment event will take place at Sandyford Community Fire Station on 6th June and at Leek Fire Station on 10th June between 10am and 4pm. At the event people will be able to chat to current volunteers and find out more about the role, which will involve assisting with Home Fire Risk Checks and representing the Service at community events.
Mick Daniels, Prevention Manager said: "Following successful volunteer recruitment drives in Newcastle, Stafford, Tamworth and Lichfield we are now looking to expand our volunteers to support fire service activities predominately within the Stoke on Trent and Staffordshire Moorlands areas.
"This is a great opportunity for people either looking to volunteer or those who are unemployed and are looking to widen their skills. Anyone over the age of 18 can apply and they don’t necessarily need to live close to the fire stations. We’re after people with good communication and interpersonal skills and they must be willing to give a minimum of four hours of time per month. Full training will be provided by Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service.
"We currently have 10 volunteers in Newcastle, 10 in Stafford, 15 in Tamworth and interviews are currently underway for Lichfield volunteers. We are looking for around 12 people to work from Sandyford Community Fire Station and 12 people to work from Leek Fire Station."
Lead Newcastle-under-Lyme volunteer, Sue Paris said: "I enjoy every minute of being a volunteer, I get a lot out of the role and it’s really helped to build my confidence. It’s nice to be in an environment where everyone is working towards the same thing and as a team. I feel as though I’m really helping and I like that I can do hands on work with the fire and rescue service to help others."
