Fire and rescue crews from Leek and Ipstones have attended a building fire on Park Road in Leek. The call was received just before 7pm yesterday evening.

Station Manager Ian Read

Upon arrival firefighters were faced with a stable block approximately 10 metres by 3 metres that was well alight. The fire had already spread to an adjacent building.

The buildings were remote from the road which initially caused difficulty in gaining access.

Station Manager Ian Read said:” Firefighters used two main jets to tackle the blaze and managed to prevent the fire from causing any structural damage to the second building.”

Firefighters remained at the scene damping down until incident was closed at 10:10pm.

The cause of the fire is believed to be deliberate.
