Deliberate Fire in Cheddleton

A fire that happened in the early hours of this morning in Cheddleton was started deliberately Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service has revealed.

 

“Not only is the person putting themselves at risk but also the firefighters that are sent to tackle the fire.”

The fire broke out at 12:21am this morning at the old social club on Beech Avenue in Cheddleton.  Fire and rescue crews from Leek and Ipstones were called to the incident.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used one hose reel jet to extinguish the blaze.  The roof of the building was well alight as well as the inside of the disused building.

Station Manager Glynn Luznyj said: “The fire was started deliberately by somebody setting fire to a pile of wood that was situated next to the building. Deliberately starting fires is an extremely dangerous and selfish act and we would urge people not to do it.

“Not only is the person putting themselves at risk but also the firefighters that are sent to tackle the fire.”

The incident was closed at 2:25am
