South Staffordshire Risk Reduction Officer, Dawn Turner
At least 15 volunteers are wanted to help with Home Fire Risk Checks and representing the Service at community events, two or three people for each South Staffordshire Fire Station – Penkridge, Brewood, Codsall, Wombourne and Kinver.
South Staffordshire Risk Reduction Officer, Dawn Turner said: “Following successful volunteer recruitment drives in Stafford, Tamworth, Lichfield and North Staffordshire, we are now looking to expand our volunteers to support fire service activities within South Staffordshire.
“This is a great opportunity for people either looking to volunteer or those who are unemployed and are looking to widen their skills. Anyone over the age of 18 can apply and they don’t necessarily need to live close to the fire stations.
“We’re looking for people with good communication and interpersonal skills and they must be willing to give a minimum of four hours of time per month. Full training will be provided by Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service.
Lead Volunteer Sue Paris, who is based in North Staffordshire, said: “I enjoy every minute of being a volunteer, I get a lot out of the role and it’s really helped to build my confidence. It’s nice to be in an environment where everyone is working towards the same thing and as a team. I feel as though I’m really helping and I like that I can do hands on work with the fire and rescue service to help others.”
