02/09/2011

Burton firefighters will be popping along to the Fresher’s Fayre at Burton College next week to speak to students about fire and road safety.

"It is important that we educate students about fire safety, especially as for some they are going to be living away from home for the first time."

Risk Reduction Officer, Jason Gardiner

On Wednesday 7th September between 11am and 4pm a road traffic collision demonstration will be carried out by firefighters and advice will be given on road safety, cooking safety and the importance of working smoke alarms.

Risk Reduction Officer, Jason Gardiner said: "It is important that we educate students about fire safety, especially as for some they are going to be living away from home for the first time and they may be unaware of the dangers.

"We will be using the road traffic collision demonstration to highlight the importance of driving safely and sensibly. Firefighters will also speak to students about cooking safety and make them aware of general fire safety in student accommodation."

The Targeted Response Vehicle and a crew from Uttoxeter will also be attending ‘Emergency Services Day’ at Uttoxeter Racecourse from 12.30pm to 5pm next Wednesday where they will be promoting fire safety and offering free Home Fire Risk Checks.
