Firefighters have had a positive response to their offer of a free Home Fire Risk Check in the Baddeley Green and Milton areas following a fatal house fire on Stoneyfields Avenue last week.
"We would also encourage everyone in Staffordshire to look out for the vulnerable members of our communities, whether that be a relative, friend or neighbour – if we can help, we will."
Station Manager, Mick Daniels
All of the properties on Stoneyfields Avenue have been offered a free Home Fire Risk Check which all but nine have taken up. Nearby on Gilman Avenue a further 17 properties have accepted a free Home Fire Risk Check and on Sandown Place the six properties approached so far have all said yes.
Two further roads, Malstone Avenue and Stoneycroft are still to be covered in addition to the rest of Sandown Place and firefighters will be knocking on doors in those areas this week offering free Home Risk Checks.
Station Manager, Mick Daniels said: "It’s great that we’ve had such a positive response to our free Home Fire Risk Checks, so far 47 have been carried out in the last six days.
"We are confident of further Home Fire Risk Checks being booked once we visit the remaining properties in the immediate area around where the fatal fire took place, however if anyone outside of those roads wants a free Home Fire Risk Check they can either stop and ask a firefighter if they see them around or call 0800 0241 999 and book one direct.
"We would also encourage everyone in Staffordshire to look out for the vulnerable members of our communities, whether that be a relative, friend or neighbour – if we can help, we will.
"Even if you’re unsure about what help that person needs, call us and if we can’t help directly we can refer you to someone who can. One phone call can help save someone’s life so please call us and help us to keep more people safe in the homes."
