Wombourne firefighters are holding a road safety awareness day at Sainsbury's on Heathmill Road in Wombourne this Saturday from 10am to 4pm.
“Although it’s not necessarily the first type of incident that comes to mind when you think about the fire and rescue service, road traffic collisions are a daily occurrence for us."
Wombourne Crew Manager, Matthew White
There will be a road traffic collision demonstration showing the consequences of road traffic collisions. Firefighters will also be on hand to provide road safety advice and offering free Home Fire Risk Checks.
Wombourne Crew Manager, Matthew White said: “We are holding the event to highlight the dangers of driving without due care and attention. A demonstration of a road traffic collision will take place at around 1pm which will see a staged casualty extricated from the vehicle.
“Although it’s not necessarily the first type of incident that comes to mind when you think about the fire and rescue service, road traffic collisions are a daily occurrence for us and a lot of these incidents could be prevented if people followed our safety advice.”
The Staffordshire Safer Roads Partnership ‘Game Over’ campaign literature will also be handed out on the day. The campaign message is clear – get behind the wheel while you are still over the limit and it could be ‘Game Over’ for the driver, passengers or innocent bystanders.
Staffordshire is taking the lead nationally as one of the first areas to put a ‘morning after’ calculator on its internet site at http://www.staffssaferroads.co.uk/gameover
The calculator helps motorists to work out how much alcohol is in their blood the morning after – and, importantly, at what point it would be safe to drive.
