Staffordshire’s Chief Fire Officer Takes up National Role

Staffordshire’s Chief Fire Officer has taken up the position as the Chief Fire Officers Association (CFOA) lead officer for prevention.

"Making Staffordshire the safest place to be will continue to be my main priority; however the knowledge and experience I have gained here will undoubtedly assist me in this national role."

As Prevention Lead Peter Dartford will be responsible for chairing the National Prevention Committee which is a strategic board that looks at the key priorities for preventing fires occurring. The position will complement Peter’s ongoing role as the lead officer for producing a National Older Persons Strategy.

Chief Fire Officer/Chief Executive Peter Dartford said: "Prevention is at the heart of everything we do in the fire and rescue service so I’m absolutely delighted to take up this important role.

"Making Staffordshire the safest place to be will continue to be my main priority; however the knowledge and experience I have gained here will undoubtedly assist me in this national role."

Chairman of the Fire and Rescue Authority, Cllr Len Bloomer said: "Peter’s appointment as the Prevention Lead is a reflection of the hard work he has carried out here in Staffordshire and the positive reputation he has gained nationally. We’re confident that he will do a fantastic job in addressing some of the issues the country faces today."

Peter Dartford takes over the role from Deputy Chief Fire Officer for West Midlands Fire and Rescue Service, Martin Clarke who has recently retired.
