Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant, Sir James Hawley KCVO, has today lived out one of his dreams after a fire engine turned up to take him to officially open Hanley Community Fire Station.
The Lord-Lieutenant arrived to Staffordshire Fire and Rescue HQ with his wife, Lady Hawley, this morning to get a lift to Hanley Community Fire Station. Instead, he was firstly given a tour of the appliance before being driven to the station on a fire engine – something he described as a dream come true.
The Lord-Lieutenant has served in his role for the last 16 years, attending over 200 locations in Staffordshire with members of the Royal Family during that time. The official opening of Hanley Community Fire Station was one of his last official roles before he retires.
