Firefighters Donate Christmas Shoe Boxes

18/11/2011

Codsall firefighters and Fire Service volunteers have helped to pack almost 40 Christmas shoeboxes for under-privileged children in other countries as part of Operation Christmas Child.

"The donations from firefighters included; pens and stickers with fire safety messages such as ‘stop, drop and roll’ and colouring sheets featuring our mascot, Welephant and other safety messages on them."

St. Christopher’s Catholic Primary School in Codsall hosted the event last week which saw hundreds of donated items packed into shoeboxes ready to be sent to other countries.

The shoeboxes will be posted out on Friday November 18th so that children in the 14 recipient countries have them in time for Christmas.

South Staffordshire Risk Reduction Officer for Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service, Katherine Staples said: “We set ourselves a target of completing 15 shoeboxes but we managed a staggering 39 in just three hours.

“The shoeboxes are full of goodies for children who don’t get Christmas gifts so it is a really good cause and we had lots of items donated. The donations from firefighters included; pens and stickers with fire safety messages such as ‘stop, drop and roll’ and colouring sheets featuring our mascot, Welephant and other safety messages on them.”
