Woman Hospitalised Following Chip Pan Fire

21/12/2011

A woman was taken to hospital last night following a chip pan fire at her home on Marmion Park in Tamworth.

"This incident serves as a pertinent reminder to people using chip pans; they should never be left unattended as they can quickly overheat and ignite."

Tamworth Assistant Area Commander, Alan McEntire

A crew from Tamworth and a crew from Tamworth Mercia were alerted to the fire at 10.45pm last night and on arrival found the fire was out but a 26-year-old woman was suffering from smoke inhalation.

Firefighters ventilated the property and the woman was transported to hospital by ambulance.

Tamworth Assistant Area Commander, Alan McEntire said: "This incident serves as a pertinent reminder to people using chip pans; they should never be left unattended as they can quickly overheat and ignite.  We’d encourage people to use thermostatically controlled deep fat fryers instead as these are designed not to overheat."

Crews left the scene at 11.20pm and the woman was later discharged from hospital.
