Staffordshire Fire & Rescue Service - Preventing, Protecting, Responding

Community Fire Station Given Splash of Colour

18/01/2012

Brightly coloured banners created by pupils from Haywood Engineering College are set to be unveiled at Sandyford Community Fire Station tomorrow.

“We wanted some artwork in the station to make it brighter and more welcoming for the community members who are regularly using the facilities. We already work closely with the high school and we thought this was a fantastic opportunity to get them involved in another project that would benefit the local community.”

Community Liaison Officer for Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service, Ruth Haigh.

Pupils have been attending after school sessions to produce the bright silk banners, alongside community arts group, ‘Letting in the Light’. The three banners have themes of; community, safety and the Home Fire Risk Checks that the Service offers.

The banners are set to be unveiled at an event at Sandyford Community Fire Station on Thursday 19 January. The event will be attended by the pupils, their families and teachers.

Community Liaison Officer for Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service, Ruth Haigh said: “We wanted some artwork in the station to make it brighter and more welcoming for the community members who are regularly using the facilities. We already work closely with the high school and we thought this was a fantastic opportunity to get them involved in another project that would benefit the local community.”

Head of Art at Haywood Engineering College, Linda Weston said: “The children have worked really hard creating these imaginative and brightly coloured banners. We’re really proud of what they’ve achieved and the result is a set of stunning banners that will have pride of place in the community fire station.”
