22/09/2009

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to an incident at Biffa Landfill site on Eccleshall road at 7.20am on 21st September 2009.

Crews from Eccleshall, Cannock and the water carrier from Cheadle were initially sent to the incident which involved an area of woodchip waste, approximately 100m x 30m.

Crews have now bought the fire under control using compressed air foam and a jet, however they will be remaining at the incident to monitor remaining hot spots.

Station Manager, Rob Barber said: “The main fire was bought under control within a couple of hours, however due to the nature of the materials burning there are some areas still smouldering and crews will be remaining at the incident for the foreseeable future, monitoring the situation. We are also working closely with contractors at the site to remove burnt materials using a digger.”
