Uttoxeter residents are being reminded to ‘look when they cook’ following a grill pan fire in the town.
"We’d urge people to ensure they look when they cook as food can quickly catch alight, as this incident has highlighted."
Station Manager, Paul Cullen
Firefighters from Uttoxeter attended the incident on Market Street on Sunday evening at 7.22pm.
The fire was out when the crew arrived, however the property was heavily smoke logged and firefighters wearing breathing apparatus led the female occupier to safety; she was given a precautionary check by paramedics due to smoke inhalation.
Station Manager, Paul Cullen said: "The fire had started due to food that had been left under the grill unattended. We’d urge people to ensure they look when they cook as food can quickly catch alight, as this incident has highlighted.
"A large number of the accidental house fires we attend are caused by cooking and so later this month we will be launching our annual cooking campaign to raise awareness."
