A mother and two young children aged two and six have been taken to hospital following a house fire on Baskerville Road in Hanley last night.
"Firefighters ventilated the property whilst the family were transferred to hospital for treatment."
Firefighters from Hanley, Newcastle and Burslem were called to the fire by the mother of the children, who was still inside the house, at 1.46am this morning.
On arrival, firefighters entered the property and rescued two unconscious children from the ground floor and led the woman to safety.
The fire had started in the bedroom upstairs and had been extinguished by the woman prior to the arrival of firefighters.
Group Manager, Steve Pope said: "The woman said she had put the fire out herself and then moved the children downstairs however their conditions worsened so she alerted the emergency services.
"Firefighters ventilated the property whilst the family were transferred to hospital for treatment. We are currently investigating the cause of the fire but are not treating the fire as suspicious."
