Over 40 people called to report the fire at around 5.20pm, which could be seen from further afield due to a large plume of smoke in the air.
Crews from Lichfield, Rugeley, Cannock, Barton-under-Needwood and Burton were first sent to the blaze which involved a 50 metre by 100 metre warehouse.
Station Manager, Dermot Hogan said: "We had been informed by the owners of the premises that the building contained some gas cylinders as well as various machinery.
"Firefighters used main jets to fight the fire and the aerial ladder platform from Burton tackled the fire from above.
"Nearby residents were asked to remain indoors and close doors and windows as a precautionary measure as due to the nature of the affected business, we were unsure about what could be contained within the smoke."
The fire was under control by 10.30pm and firefighters remained on scene overnight to monitor the fire. Dermot added: "Firefighters have continued to damp down hotspots once it came light this morning and a fire investigation will soon commence to determine how the fire started.
"The building has been significantly damaged and farming vehicles as well as forklift trucks were severely damaged by the fire. Thankfully no one has been injured though and no one was in the building at the time of the fire."
