Biddulph Moor residents have taken firefighters up on the offer of a free Home Fire Risk Check, following a fire that took the lives of a local couple.

"A check doesn’t take long; half an hour of your time may just save the lives of you and your family."

Station Manager, Dave Steele

Since the incident on Hurst Road firefighters have visited properties in the surrounding area to raise awareness of the free Home Fire Risk Checks the Service offers. Over 30 households have booked checks and in the coming weeks firefighters and technicians will visit the properties to fit safety equipment, discuss escape routes and identify fire hazards.

Station Manager, Dave Steele said: "We’re pleased by the uptake of our free Home Fire Risk Checks, although there are still residents who we’re still yet to hear from. Approximately half of the people we visited have booked checks; we’d encourage the other half to take us up on our offer.

"Many people like to think they know what to do in the case of a fire; however we often find that people forget which is why it is always useful to have a refresher with the latest advice and guidance. A check doesn’t take long; half an hour of your time may just save the lives of you and your family."
