Staffordshire Fire & Rescue Service - Preventing, Protecting, Responding

Kitchen Fire in Burton Manor, Stafford

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service is reminding people to ‘look when they cook’ following an incident that happened on Saturday afternoon in Stafford.

Fire crews from Stafford and Rising Brook were called to Malcolm Road in the Burton Manor area just after 4pm.

The incident involved a fire in the kitchen of the property. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used one hose reel jet to tackle the fire and ventilate the property.

The fire was caused due to food that had been left cooking unattended under the grill. The incident comes just a few days after a similar incident on Collingwood Court in Stone on Thursday afternoon.

Station Manager Neil Pedersen said: “We are currently running a cooking safety campaign due to the large number of fires we attend that are caused by cooking left unattended. The advice is simple –wait until you’ve finished cooking before you leave the room and then turn off any cooking appliance.

“We strongly advise people to avoid cooking if they have been drinking alcohol as it’s very easy to forget that you have left food cooking or to fall asleep and before you know it your food has caught fire.

The incident was closed at 4:40pm.
