Staffordshire Fire & Rescue Service - Preventing, Protecting, Responding

Extrication Challenge Winners

15/05/2012

A team of firefighters from Brewood have been named the winners of this year’s extrication challenge following a competition held on Saturday at Fire and Rescue Service Headquarters.

“Brewood clearly excelled in the competition demonstrating their live saving skills and professionalism. They have now got to maintain their focus and prepare themselves for the National Finals. Myself and the rest of the team will be supporting them the whole way!"

Lead Trainer, Damian Armstrong.

Crews from Lichfield, Stone and Brewood competed against each other to see who would represent Staffordshire at the National Extrication Challenge Finals later this year.

The competition is an annual event and gives firefighters the opportunity to demonstrate and practise their skills. The firefighters were judged on their professionalism in releasing trapped casualties from vehicles within a 20 minute time frame.

Each team were given a different car crash scenario and “trained” casualties acted out injuries which the firefighters had to take into consideration during the extrication.

Lead Trainer, Damian Armstrong said: “Brewood clearly excelled in the competition demonstrating their live saving skills and professionalism. They have now got to maintain their focus and prepare themselves for the National Finals. Myself and the rest of the team will be supporting them the whole way!

The United Kingdom Rescue Organisation assessors who judge the competition, have been extremely supportive towards the teams here at Staffordshire, so I would like to thank them for them for all their hard work and support.”

Brewood will now represent Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service at the National Finals to be held in Lincoln in September.
