Two Lichfield Firefighters, who took part in the Trauma Challenge, at the Extrication Challenge Final in Glasgow on Friday, have returned home crowned champions after achieving a place in the top three!
Firefighter Chris Ward and Firefighter Chris Gaunt, who both also competed in the Extrication Challenge at the event, came third out of 40 teams from Fire Services across the Country. The team are now waiting for confirmation to see whether they have made it through to the world finals which will be held in October.
Both Firefighters, who are trained medics, were judged at a ‘mock’ incident which involved a motorcycle that had crashed leaving one female injured at the scene. The team were assessed on their medical skills and professionalism at the simulated incident which involved them using their CPR skills.
The ‘Extrication Team’ also did well at the event, making it through to the second, more complex day, and overall coming 20th in the competition.
Watch Manager, Steve Whitehouse said: “I am extremely proud of both teams; over the past few months they have trained really hard and there is no doubt that this was shown in all of their performances during the competition.”
