Kitchen Fire in Burton

16/08/2012

Two crews from Burton were called to a kitchen fire at a house on Waterloo Street in Burton at 7.10pm last night.

"We urge people to look when they cook, ensure appliances are clean and fit-for-purpose and are turned off when not in use."

Station Manager, Jim Bywater

The occupants were outside on arrival so firefighters wearing breathing apparatus went to investigate the fire.

Burgers cooking on the grill had caught fire and caused smoke logging to the kitchen so firefighters ventilated the room. The occupants were unharmed.

Station Manager, Jim Bywater said: "Over half of all the house fires we attend start in the kitchen. We urge people to look when they cook, ensure appliances are clean and fit-for-purpose and are turned off when not in use."
